These dogs make wonderful pets and human companions. The Standard Poodle is very intelligent and seems to grasp whatever the owner wants it to do in a moment. Standard Poodles - Grooming
Grooming is the number one aspect that has to be borne in mind when considering a Standard Poodle. The dog has a wiry curly coat that has to be clipped to acquire proper form. There are three main clips for the Standard Poodle: the so-called "pet-clip" with relatively short hairs all over the body, "English saddle clip," and "Continental clip."
These clips were developed for the Standard Poodle at the early stages of the breed formation. Abundant hairs in some areas protected the dog from cold water, while the tidy form of the clips added to its elegance.
The Standard Poodle needs regular clipping and bathing. Clipping is done every 6 or eight weeks. Check the ears regularly and scale the teeth. It is recommended to ask for a piece of advice from a professional groomer.
Standard Poodles - Diet
The Standard Poodle is prone to bloat. This condition is very serious and should be prevented by the means of proper diet and schedule. It is recommended to feed puppies a few small meals a day.
